✨When love is the best music to play✨

“Kristina Forest’s The Love Lyric hits all the right notes in this heartfelt, emotionally layered Black romance novel, part of The Greene Sisters series, but also a powerful standalone read.

Iris Greene used to be a woman with a plan. But everything changed when she met the love of her life, got married, and had a daughter only to become a widow and single mother within less than two years. Now, Iris is thriving as the director of partnerships at Save Face Beauty and raising her spirited six-year-old daughter Calla. Yet even with her success, a quiet loneliness lingers. Until one night at her sister’s wedding, she steps outside for air and runs into Angel Harrison, a pop R&B singer with charm, soul, and a voice that stirs up long-silenced feelings.

Angel has the fame, the fans, and a brand deal with Save Face Beauty, but his heart isn’t in the music he’s being pushed to make, and he can’t stop thinking about Iris, the woman he’s crushed on for years. Their chemistry is undeniable, but with business, grief, and life complications in the way, can they find their rhythm and make the melody of love last? “

My Thoughts on The Love Lyric

:

This was my first Kristina Forest book, and even though it’s technically the third installment in The Greene Sisters series, I had no problem jumping right in. Each book focuses on a different sister’s journey, so The Love Lyric reads beautifully as a standalone. That said, now that I’ve read this one, I absolutely plan to go back and read The Neighbor Favor and The Partner Plot.

I’m a sucker for soft love stories, and this book gave me exactly what I was hoping for—tenderness, vulnerability, and the kind of romance that makes you smile at night and rub your feet together under the covers. Iris and Angel? They feel like the perfect duet—different backgrounds, but their souls harmonize in such an effortless way. They reminded me of a love song you never want to end.

I appreciated how Forest weaved real-life issues into the romance: grief, single motherhood, workplace tension, and especially the clash between tradition and personal truth. Angel’s strained relationship with his overly religious mother, who resents his transition from gospel to R&B, was painfully realistic, and  Iris’s experience navigating a work environment that isn’t bring much excitement in her life ! Unfortunately, all too familiar.

Still, the story is rich with emotional growth, healing, and Black joy. The sisterhood between Iris and her siblings was a beautiful thread throughout the novel. Their honest conversations and mutual support made this book feel like a warm embrace. I also really appreciated the subtle but impactful mentions of therapy, healthy communication, and community. These are the quiet strengths of The Love Lyric that make it stand out from a typical romance.

The pacing was a bit slow at first but definitely picked up as the story progressed, and by the final chapters, I was fully invested. It’s the kind of book that gently tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you feeling full.

Final Thoughts:

If you’re a fan of soft Black romance books that celebrate love, healing, and the power of music, The Love Lyric is a must-read. It’s sweet, soulful, and sincere, a feel-good book that’s perfect for romance lovers or even your next book club pick.
