Book Review: Can’t Get Enough (Skyland) by Kennedy Ryan448 pages | Published May 13, 2025

When it comes to Kennedy Ryan and her books, just know I’m going to read them,no questions asked. At this point, I don’t even need a synopsis. If she wrote it, I’m grabbing my snacks, a latte, my cow-print blanket, and diving right in. And that’s exactly what I did when I finally got my hands on the third book in the Skyland series, Can’t Get Enough.

Last year, I read the first two books in the series, Before I Let Go and This Could Be Us, and I truly enjoyed both of them,so much so that I read them twice. (You can check out my reviews on www.chaptersandcharms.com.) After following Yasmen and Soledad’s stories, which were amazing, it was finally time to hear from Hendrix Barry.

Out of the three women, Hendrix is the kind of friend every group needs. She lives a fabulous life in the entertainment industry, runs her own thriving business, and turns every vision into reality. She’s a go-getter, the life of the party, and truly embodies the “rich auntie” energy. Honestly, Hendrix was always my favorite. She reminds me so much of Samantha Jones from Sex and the City,bold, confident, outspoken, intelligent, and fiercely independent. She’s the rock everyone leans on.

From the first two books, I was already impressed with Hendrix. With her fast-paced lifestyle, I was more than ready for her love story. People like Hendrix don’t fold,they know what they want and go after it. She built her business, supports other Black entrepreneurs, and creates opportunities for others while thriving herself.

One thing I really respected about Hendrix is that she knows her mind,especially when it comes to not wanting children. That’s something many women today can relate to. Yet, as usual, people try to challenge that decision, insisting she’ll “change her mind.” It’s frustrating and honestly disrespectful. Hendrix stands firm in her choices, and I admire that. For me, it’s not about disliking kids—it’s about being okay if that life isn’t for me. I’m perfectly fine being a cat lady with a good book, snacks, and my hobbies.

But despite all her success and confidence, Hendrix carries a heavy burden. While managing her career and traveling, she’s also dealing with her mother’s early-stage Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Her aunt steps in to help, even relocating to support the family, but there’s only so much she can do. Watching Hendrix balance everything shows her strength,but also her vulnerability.

Throughout the series, we’ve heard bits and pieces about Hendrix’s love life, but now we finally get the full picture,and let me tell you, she hits the jackpot. Enter Maverick Bell: a billionaire, a surfer, and a Black man? Say less. Hendrix definitely found one in a million.

Maverick is the perfect match for her. He isn’t intimidated by her at all,in fact, he’s drawn to her. He’s powerful in his own right, having built his own success despite growing up in the spotlight as the son of a professional basketball player. He’s smart, driven, and knows exactly what he wants,just like Hendrix.

Their connection starts at a party in Miami, and what really pulls them together is something deeper: they both have loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s. When Maverick sees Hendrix shift from being the life of the party to comforting her mother over the phone, he recognizes her strength and depth.

What I love most about their relationship is that it’s not traditional. Maverick already has a grown daughter and doesn’t want more children, which aligns perfectly with Hendrix’s own desires. Their relationship feels mature, intentional, and balanced.

Maverick truly shows up for Hendrix. Whether it’s flying across time zones to be by her side or surprising her with champagne and roses, he understands what she’s going through and refuses to let her face it alone. Their moments together genuinely made my heart melt (yes, I’m a hopeless romantic).

Now let’s talk about his ex,because she worked my nerves. Her insecurity and pettiness, especially toward Hendrix, were exhausting. The fact that she couldn’t understand Maverick’s attraction to Hendrix because she wasn’t “model thin” says everything about her character. And don’t even get me started on Chapter 43,I was DONE. Trying to bring legal drama into the mix over some imaginary “girl code”? Please. They weren’t friends, just work associates. There was no code to break.

Of course, Hendrix handled it like the queen she is and came out on top,with better opportunities and her solid friend group intact.

One of my favorite surprises in this book was the crossover with the Hoop Novel series (also by Kennedy Ryan). With Maverick’s father tied to the basketball world, it was so fun seeing characters from that series pop up. I loved Hoop Dreams and would honestly love more crossovers like this in the future.

As much as I adore this series, it’s hard to let go. I’ve grown so attached to these characters. I even reread the series last year,that’s how good it is. But that’s Kennedy Ryan for you,always leaving you wanting more.

The ending had me in full “aww” mode. Seeing Hendrix and Maverick happy together, while still supporting her mom and aunt, was beautiful. Their bond and sacrifices for her mother were incredibly touching, and Maverick being there every step of the way made it even more special.

I’m so glad Hendrix got her happy ending,especially after everything she went through, including that frustrating court situation (you’ll have to read it yourself because wow…).

I hate that the Skyland series is ending, but they truly saved the best for last. Can’t Get Enough was a fun, emotional, and unforgettable read filled with diverse characters you’ll love. It’s spicy, exciting, hopeful, funny, and full of heart.

Ms. Kennedy Ryan did not disappoint,I definitely can’t get enough.
